Our client and frequent collaborator, Lydia Menzies of Party Wagon, created another big hit with her 'teeny-tiny' theme for her daughter's first teen birthday. And we're super excited to share the results with you! It's a bit hard to see the scale here we realize, but just so you know, each of these elements are a fraction of the size of their normal counterparts - 'teeny', right?. But no details were left out in the process. Really amazing - and that's where the fun begins. From the garlands of teeny yarn cupcakes to the teeny party hats that would fit on the end of your finger - one just marvels at the perfection and all the fabulous color! For instance, look at these tiny chicks and butterflies and tell us you don't go 'awww...' Lydia's signature attention to detail and rich, bright colors always makes her party's so unique and memorable. You can't help but smile when you see it all. And it's not just the kids that get excited........ parents get a kick out of it too! Check out her website and get started planning your next amazing event!
How many people get to do what they love their entire careers? I feel so fortunate to say I'm one of those people. As a kid, I had a passion for two things: telling stories and making art. As an adult I found photography and graphic design- the perfect way to do both. When our company ZoomWorks launched in 1999 it was because Marisu and I were both lovers of imagery who found a common vision in taking the 'uncommon view' of life. Through the years we've found joy in telling the stories of our clients lives. As a result, our business has continued to grow and thrive as we've moved seamlessly between the personal and professional worlds of our clients. I now find myself at a new crossroad on my journey - an opportunity for me to enhance what I bring to the table at my photography business* through new experiences. The University of Georgia has always been in our backyard. I graduated with my master's degree from UGA and thought it would stay just that, a pleasant neighbor. This year, I find myself back at my alma mater with a dual faculty/staff appointment. I'm reaching back to my roots in journalism to work with the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach as a photographer & designer. This position offers me the opportunity to tell meaningful stories across our state about the good works and positive impact of UGA on the citizens of Georgia. It's fulfilling and fun! In addition, I now teach part time at the UGA Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. This fall I'll be part of the launch of a brand new curriculum designed to create well-rounded journalists [...]
Our studio frequently gets calls from parents who are told by family, friends – even strangers, that their child could model. They ask ‘What should I do next?” Having worked in film, television and print* for many years, on both sides of the camera, there is much I am happy to share to make the process simpler and hopefully more satisfying for everyone involved. It may be that we're finally out of the woods for any sort of winter weather with Easter around the corner and our favorite shade of green on display at every turn. One look out our studio window at the bright white pompoms of the false pear tree that fills that 'frame' put's one in the merriest of spring moods. Speaking of some of our favorite things, here are some green products that caught our eye. Feminine green pumps by Oscar de la Renta. The prettiest pale green cocktail - yes pour us a glass please! Look at this mint green hair color. Well, not everyone can wear it, true, but when it works, wow! If you're planning a wedding for the spring of 2017, consider using shades of green for more than your bouquet. Linens, bridesmaids dresses, even the icing on the cake. Think outside the box and invite the outdoors in. See you on the road less traveled!

In this age of 'selfie' promotion we'd like to voice an opinion about using such an image in a professional application as your head shot. (And we're not talking about Facebook.) Are you going to be entering the work force soon? Or looking to change jobs or apply for a better one? Or just updating an online presence whether it's on your own site or a networking site like Linkedin? Much, if not all, the preliminary steps in this process are now done online. Gone are the days of handing in a written application, and if called, have that initial opportunity to make an impression in person. People can now see you virtually and in an instance decide if they want to take the process to the next level. Given the importance of that first online response, we are baffled by the number of portraits that make it to the internet posing as professional head shots. Especially when having the alternative is so easily within reach, both in time and budget. It's been said that you should not dress for the job you're applying for but the job that you believe you can have. A professionally taken head shot can allow you to put forth your 'best' face. Relaxed, polished and professional. Ready to be taken seriously for that perfect job or to be trusted by those clients you are trying to solicit. We have a studio that's versatile enough to capture that classic corporate image, or a warm lifestyle portrait, or even a shot with an edge if you're looking to market yourself as an artist/actor. We're also quite mobile and happy to bring our compact set-up and expertise to your place of business [...]
The Bigger Picture When we began our journey with photography as a boutique studio in 2000, taking pictures for people as a way for them to remember events in their lives. We were focused on the big picture (no pun intended!)......creating a client base to support our small business dreams. As we have traveled that path over the years, we've had opportunities to reflect on unexpected aspects of our artistry that were not clear to us at first. And a much bigger picture. As photographers, we encourage people to allow us to capture the highlights of their life, or their families lives, because life is so fleeting. Never have we had that idea brought home more intensely than when we got the first phone call, I believe it was after a wedding over ten years ago, from that couples family to thank us for the great job that we did that day, and to further inform us of the fact that one of the family members in attendance, a young man, had been killed in a terrible accident and our photographs were the last ones to be taken of him. Their gratitude was palpable. We were speechless. It was a very emotional moment. That story plays out for us more often than one would think, sadly enough. It's a very bittersweet moment to experience. But it does remind us that what we do is so important for the families we do it for. And it is also a reminder to all of us that we should not take any day for granted. Steal those moments. Take those photographs. And cherish them, for all that they will mean to you and your family one day. Because [...]
Making the right choice for your wedding photographer. The new year has begun and we are starting a new season of meetings with engaged couples working to make the right choice for their photographer. We sit across the table at our studio from their fresh, happy faces and enjoy watching them tell us how they met, what they're dreaming of and what they hope will be the most perfect, personal story they've ever told. Hearing these tales never gets old for us. But it does remind us that there are pitfalls to every step of wedding planning, and our area of expertise, photography, is no exception.
The inspiration behind this bohemian styled shoot was to create a festive yet sophisticated mood incorporating vivid hues and design elements. Perfect for the world traveled couple who dreams of a colorfully cultural and stylishly rustic wedding day setting. To bring the bohemian luxe vision to life Liz Messick (Liz Messick Design) juxtaposed vibrant color and opulent details on worn wooden surfaces adjacent to an old historic mill. The Boho look truly came together with brightly colored elements, a rustic wood table and some outdoor ambiance. The tablescape was styled blending brass candlesticks, gold chargers and metallic gold calligraphy with a custom woven turquoise runner and contrasting fuchsia floral centerpieces. Menus featuring water-color designs and whimsical calligraphy, by the talented Allison Cape of Lady Dale Letters and topped with orange clementines completed each place setting. Handmade frozen treats from Hip Pops with names like MC Slammer and Gucci Mango, served as the perfect sweet treat. The lovely model is from a group of talent that we work with regularly. Her gown from I Do I Do Bridal, with it's sheer sleeves and back, was the perfect compliment to her dark beauty and a subtle way to show off tattoos if you have them. Makeup by Jeni Smith and hair by Marisu of Zoomworks. Thanks everyone for bringing it all together in such a beautiful way. Inspiration certainly to couples looking for that little something different! See you on the road less traveled.......
As we wrote in an earlier blog post, we had the pleasure of working with Erika Firm of Analog Creative, a Charleston based design company, this summer on a product catalog for the new holiday collection by Revel & Co. Their products are amazing.......party goods so personalized and whimsical that they inspire events all on their own. The catalog is finished and out to retailers and orders are rolling in. We're not sure where the products will be available on the East Coast - the company is based in Colorado - but if you have a favorite paper goods store, you might mention the name to them and see if they would consider carrying the line. Your wrapped packages and party decor will be the talk of the town! We got a sneak peak into what's in store for the spring line (we can't spoil the fun by telling!) and it will be another hit, no doubt. Collaborating with other creatives is what it's all about. Keeps us on our toes and having fun. See you on the road less traveled.........
